Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he has discussed the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol in a call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Senior Congress leader and former Governor of various states K Sankaranarayanan passed away at his residence here on Sunday, family sources said. He was 89. Sankaranarayanan was the Governor of Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Jharkhand. He had also held additional charges of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Goa as Governor. The senior Congress leader was a four-time legislator and had held Finance, Excise, and Agriculture portfolios in various ministries in Kerala.

One hurt in a mysterious explosion in J&K’s Rajouri

One person was injured in a mysterious explosion in Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Rajouri on Sunday, officials said. The explosion took place at Budhal-Shahpur in the Kotranka area outside the house of Preetam Singh around 8 pm, a few hours after the conclusion of a marriage function there, they said. A police party has rushed to the spot and the cause of the explosion is being probed, the officials said, adding the injured was shifted to hospital and his condition was stated to be stable.

Punjab CM urges Centre to relax norms for shriveled grains

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday urged the Centre to relax norms for shriveled grains in the purchase of wheat from the state without imposing any value cut. Maharashtra on Sunday reported 144 fresh COVID-19 cases and two deaths, taking the tally of infections to 78,76,841 and the death toll to 1,47,834, a health official said. Both the fatalities were reported from Pune city, he said. With 95 patients being discharged after COVID-19 treatment, the overall count of recoveries in Maharashtra rose to 77,28,091 as of Sunday, leaving the state with 916 active cases.
