BJP cites Supreme Court order

BJP cites Supreme Court order: Issuing a clarification against a claim that caste and religion certificates are now being asked for Agniveer recruitment, the BJP said that there is no role of caste as far as the selection process is concerned, citing a 2013 Supreme Court affidavit.

In yet another controversy surrounding the Agnipath Scheme, the Opposition parties said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to create ‘Jaativeers’ using Agniveers as they claimed that caste and religion certificates are now being asked for Agniveer recruitment.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that there is a bid to create Jaativeers using Agniveers. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claimed that there is an RSS-inspired caste bias ingrained in Agniveer.

Denying the allegations, the BJP hit back and said, “This has been the norm ever since. The hiring process has not been changed.”

The national spokesperson of BJP, Sambit Patra said, “In 2013, the Indian Army had submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that there is no role of caste as far as the selection process is concerned. However, there is a column for caste that is required to be filled during the recruitment process as it is an administrative or operative requirement.”

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, “There are no changes, the details are the same that were collected earlier. Lakhs of youth have applied to become Agniveers. This shows that the Opposition’s propaganda, especially AAP’s lies, has come before the nation. AAP does politics of lies.”

Recruitments are done as per Army Rules 1954 & Defence Service Regulation 1987. Some parties like AAP try to mislead youth without knowing the truth,” Thakur added.

Digital Desk: In yet another controversy over the Agnipath Scheme, the opposition parties stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking to create “Jaativeers” utilizing Agniveers in yet another controversy involving the Agnipath Scheme. They stated that caste and religious credentials are now being asked for Agniveer recruitment.

According to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), there is an attempt to use Agniveers to produce Jaativeers. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) asserted that Agniveer had a caste bias inherent in it that was influenced by the RSS.

The BJP responded by denying the accusations and said, “Since then, this has become the standard. The hiring procedure remains unchanged.”

“In 2013, the Indian Army had submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that there is no role of caste as far as the selection process, but there is a column for caste that is required to be filled during the recruitment process as it is an administrative or operative requirement,” said Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson for the BJP.

“Supreme Court Sedition Order Must Be Viewed In Context Of BJP

The Indian Army further stressed that the requirements for applicants to submit caste certificates and, if necessary, religion certificates have always been present and that no changes have been made to the Army’s recruitment policy for Agniveer. The Agniveer recruitment strategy has not changed in this regard, the Indian Army officials said.

The Army officials added, “Religion is also essential for performing last rites as per religious customs for recruits who pass away during training and soldiers who pass away in service.”

As Prime Minister, Modi has chosen not to react to the verdict of a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court on the same complaint, which upheld the clean chit to his administration for alleged role in “the larger conspiracy” related to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
